ACC - Fault Message (Comm)

A Fault (Attention) message on the ACC controller screen indicates there is an issue in the field. The first message you will see is the Fault (Attention), but the full details will be located in the Alarm Log. A Comm failure will happen for two reasons: The decoder has failed to answer when turned on by the controller, or there is a duplicate address.

  1. Turn the dial to the Data History dial position.
  2. Select the Alarm Log. The Alarm Log holds up to 200 messages.
  3. Use the + or buttons to review each alarm. The most recent alarm is always displayed first. Every alarm has the date and the time on the screen.
  4. The Station Fault will be presented (e.g., Reason: Comm, Addr: 5).

CommNot Wired or Not Programming Correctly

If the decoder does not activate in the field, this message indicates a wire connection in the field.

  • Check connection between two wire path and decoder in the field.
  • Check the decoder was programmed properly. Reprogram at controller if needed.
  • Test the decoder wired straight to the controller with no other field wires.
    • This will indicate a good working decoder and programmed properly.
    • If the decoder activates, then continue to investigate the field wiring.

Duplicate address

If the decoder activates in the field for 10-15 seconds then turns off, this message indicates a duplicate address in the field (e.g., two decoders programmed as the same number).

  • Remove the decoder and turn it on again.
    • If there is no fault, then there might be a decoder with the same address in the field.
    • Reprogram the decoder to an available address.
  • Test the decoder.
